Goosky E2 - Super Huey is here
The new Goosky E2 just arrived. This is the latest model from Goosky, a 1:35 scale model of the Super Huey UH-1Y Venom. The helicopter is surprisingly great, and is a must have model in the fleet - if you want a scale model. This is what we know about the model so far.
Of course there are limitations and compromises in regards to the scale quality compared to a static scale model, because this helicopter can fly, and there must be a good balance for the sake of the function in this scale. But the model maximally fulfills the semi-scale requirements. If you want to go further in scale modelling, there are still possibilities, this model provides a great base, and yet if you don't change anything, she is still a pretty good model of the full scale one.
Without detailing the original model further, the base of this scale model was the fourth major version of the Bell UH-1 helicopters, this is the UH-1Y and the second in the row with four blades. After the well known two blade flybar rotor head and two blade tail rotor, this model has 4 blades and a 4 blade tail in real life, like the Goosky E2.
There's a modified Goosky S2 inside. Major changes are the reversed main rotor rotation direction and the tail rotor on the left side, therefore flying the helicopter gives a completely weird feeling compared to conventional 3D helicopters. All forces occur from the other direction, so it's difficult to compare. But the helicopter flies very smoothly, although she requires the RPM.
The fuselage is nicely manufactured, major details are well simulated, providing a great base for weathering and more scale modelling opportunities. The landing skid is obviously thicker than at the real size counterpart compared to the size of the helicopter, but this is not surprising, this landing skid has to deal with the harder landings and it's not enough to be just visually appealing.
The model is available in two versions: BNF and RTF. The BNF has a battery, some spares alongside the model, whilst the RTF version has the Goosky transmitter and a charger as well. And as the base model is the S2, this helicopter is compatible with FHSS transmitters, but the FBL (visually the same as the S2 - we don't know the differences) supports the DSMX satellite and S.BUS receivers as well. In our case, the helicopter has got a Futaba RS6203SBE receiver which we were able to fit in the fuselage perfectly.
The Goosky Huey is 530 grams, which is 200 grams on top of the original S2 weight, so she is significantly heavier, which must be considered during flight. We cant confirm this just yet, but she can fly up to 15 minutes with a 1600 mAh 3S battery. The main rotor diameter is also greater than the original S2 rotor diameter: instead of 440mm this helicopter has 490mm.
Personal note: this was the easiest heli setup ever for us. We just copied the settings of the Goosky S1 helicopter in the transmitter to a new model memory, then the model memory slot was renamed, and the setup was done. Factory settings are perfect.
The helicopter is not too loud, although the rotors have an interesting noise due to the four blades during flight. She is a beautiful scale model to add your fleet - and this is the RC helicopter which will be well received by the wider public, because she looks like the original, she flies like the original, she is a helicopter model.
Disclaimer (also our recommendations): The helicopter does not fall under the C0 toy category, because the total take-off weight is way more than the 250gr legal limit, so officially all drone regulations apply. With other words: this helicopter looks like a toy, but she is NOT a toy - not even by legal terms. Although the flying behaviour makes this model beginner friendly, we would still recommend a cheaper trainer model (like the Goosky S1 or S2) next to this model for learning and practicing purposes. When the latter models crash, it's much easier to fix them. But this model is a must have one, if you really like helicopter modelling.
