XLPower Specter 700
Electric helicopter kit

The Specter 700 is the biggest model of XLPower. Made of durable but lightweight materials, like titanium, carbon fiber, aluminium. The mainshaft is wider than usual main shafts in this size, its diameter is 15 mm.

The helicopter is surprisingly agile, it flies like a smaller model. Its design is quite different to other helis, it's visible the design made by experienced pilots rather than engineers. There are tiny tricks which make the helicopter good. The battery slot in the bottom is wide, even the 7 cells packs can fit in easily. Impossible the get the batteries stuck in after a strong 3D flight.

The markings on the rotor head at the hub and grips make the leveling easier, in case of need a basic ajustment can be done with no pitch gauge. Everything looks a bit oversized, therefore all components affected by forces can deal with the extreme circumstances as well. This helicopter can't fall apart in the air in theory. 

Tail block is produced in one piece, no way to loose a screw, then to see everything flying away. Tail is belt driven, therefore it's less sensible to touching the ground, and thanks to the multiple tensioning, it can tolerate the larger temperature changes as well. No need to worry about taking the helicopter in the heated room, after a shaking winter flight in -10 °C. The belt is not going to pop apart.

Due to its lightweight design this helicopter can be a good base of a scale model as well. However the raised tail is a different question, because the tail boom diameter will not be compatible with any custom products. On top of it, the multi-blade scale rotor heads will not fit to this main shaft at all.

So this helicopter is not going to be a good MD500 or Huey, but it can be a perfect choice to build a scale (semiscale) Jet Ranger. Its body will not cause any headache.

Obviously the helicopter is designed to performance and demo flights, scale helicopters weren't targeted. As performance 3D helicopter it can compete to any other brands, and its prices put them in the middle range. The only handycap was the parts supplyment in Europe earlier. Only few shops kept spare parts for these helicopters, but the number of retailers is increasing constantly and this is not a problem anymore.

Not suitable for beginners

It's moving fast, responds immediately and suddenly to the sticks. And - as any 700 size helicopter - its dimensions don't make it comfortable for a newbie pilot. However advanced or professional pilots will like it. Interchange model can be any 550-570 size model, because the battery packs used in pairs in this helicopter can be used in them in single.
